Most recent DeathBoy track on the burner.
I wrote half of this on a plane and the Tube, using my iPhone with BeatMaker. If you want to make music out of pre-prepared loops, it’s great. If you want to make proper music, you’re going to have to put some work into it. It’s not a composition tool, it’s a loop tool.
It’s great to let people make music, but when you tell people they’re making music by letting them stick blocks together, you’re just giving them a Lego creative process. It’s good if they then go on to demand more, but it does lead to a lot of tracks-by-numbers.
Anyhoo, it did let me make a drum and bass loop or two to drop some filth over.
—
introverted and obscene
she covers scars in neoprene
never quite a beauty queen
she walks the world half in a dream
overwhelmed and quite erratic
she finds the message in the static
always strangely in demand
she only wants to hold your fucking hand
————————
all the time I tried to be
a better human than you see
the creature that i have become
I tried so hard but I am weak
I hate the thing I turned into
I hated me, now I hate you
I am the missing operand
I only wanted to hold your fucking hand
—————————
pretty little girls in a pretty little world
singing along to the same recycled
popular sensibilities
nothing that she could connect to
sugar and spice and all things right and
wrong and nobody ever took the time
to ask if this was how
she wanted her own universe to be

Hello, fuckholes!
It just occurred to me that now I have a comments-driven site, I can actually ask questions:
What do you fuckers WANT out of DeathBoy?
If you’re outside of the UK, we probably can’t come and play your hometown. Sorry, we’d love to. That’s the most common question I’ve had asked of me. We’ll try.
Other than that, is there something you fuckers WANT?
A CD containing some specific tracks?
To be able to buy the CD in a given country that we don’t cover?
Artwork / lyrics for something?
For me to set fire to my penis live, on TV, while chugging a bottle of vodka and screaming ALLAH IS LORD?
If there’s something we don’t provide, or a question you’d like the answer to, make a comment.
I will attempt to reply without saying things about your mom*.
* I will probably say thing about your mom.

Fuck me, am I hungover.
I’m about to have a stab at uploading lyrics for a bunch more songs – while I’m fucking about in the archives, if anyone has particular requests for lyrics for a song they’d like to see featured, drop me a comment, I’ll make sure I get to them sooner, rather than later.
there’s a lot to do… I need to stop writing stuff.

Righto, fuckos!
I’m trying to get used the fact that I normally update my livejournal when I have something to say, but frankly (particularly when it’s about the music), this is the place I should be doing things.
The main reason is: I’m still getting used to having a fucking blogging platform on my fucking website.
So, here you go (and if you don’t like, feel free to fuck yourself):
The latest track so far is the remarkably chilled “Inspiration“, from the work-in-progress album “CogRock“.
This album’s got a few blinders on it like the grimy, low-down trip-hop of “Buddhabox” and the stadium-industrial, anthemic “Safety in Numbness“. If you like how they’re sounding, check out the work-in-progress directory and let us know what you think.
The instrumentation for “Inspiration” came together while I was chilling and drinking on the balcony of my wife’s place in deepest Michigan. God bless laptops and the ability to put down a musical sketch with minimal equipment and software.
I probably need to round out the vocals and the growl on this and flesh out the instrumentation, but bare as it is, I quite like it. As ever, it’s not “finished”, it’s a demo track. If you don’t like it, I’ve got a bag of cocks you’re welcome to suck right here.
In terms of the direction, I’m not irrevocably moving toward writing chill-out-angst, but I do reckon I’ve done the whole aggression thing inside out for now, so I’m exploring my big love of bands like Massive Attack andthe Orb. When something makes me absolutely FUCKING FURIOUS, you get tracks like MachineGun or Cheap Shot.
When I’m feeling bleak and misanthropic and spiteful, you get something a bit more brooding, a slower burn.
I’m painfully aware that this will get us reviews where some cunt reads the name “DeathBoy” then listens to a bunch of low-tempo, seething little numbers and decides that we’re cunts.
That’s because a good swathe of music hacks form their first impressions on the name and the press shots, decide what they expect the band to sound like before they play the CD and then take out their disappointment that musicians in reality aren’t an exact reflection of their own piss-poor internal stereotypes by the music-press equivalent of a cry for help.
Fortunately, we are much the Millwall of the industrial scene: nobody likes us and we don’t care.
All of which is a tellingly verbose way of saying that I’m going to continue to make music the way I fucking want to, but know that some of youz won’t like that.
Obviously, it’s nice to be recognised, and I’ve been a twat for getting angry at favourite bands that have changed tack for an album or two when I wanted more of the glorious same, but that gets painfully dull from the artist perspective and I am, if nothing, hideously self-involved.
Right. Enough shite.
I do read this shit, and I get a fucking ENORMOUS amount of spam comments, so it really would cheer me up if someone had something to say other than to offer me pills to make my cock bigger, so please feel free to comment. I will, in the fullness of time, reply. PROMISE.
End of line.

Well, maybe nothing so grandiose, but I figured there should be some kind of update on the site as we now have this glorious WordPress engine allowing me to spit my tiny thoughts onto the website any time I get drunk enough.
So, a fairly big update:
We finally got the new site together (you’re reading the fucker).
There’s a hell of a lot to fill in because this new framework lets us put EVERYTHING that we have available online, properly (lyrics, mp3s, videos, outtakes, etc).
It’s been a long time coming, the last one was pretty much End of an Error -era (ouch, that scans badly), and was diligently run by our erstwhile axe-meister Jase before we parted ways. Truth be told, I’m not sufficiently skilled in website crafting to make a new one, so while I focussed on writing new material, the old site got old quickly.
The shiny new site is a much-appreciated gift from Bob at Line-Out Records.
Go there. Buy our albums. Or maybe hire the man for some website design at Shinytastic.com – he’s an absolute legend (and the man responsible for putting out End of an Error).
The band has thinned out and hit a nadir in terms of the live experience. A while back, we parted with Jase, our long-standing guitarist of legend, and last year, Phil, another founding member and the most bad-ass drummer in the known universe had some excellent career opportunities and hung up his sticks, leaving me and Adam holding the fort and purveying the filth.
Bastards, both of them.
This has effectively stopped us gigging – we played a few awesome nights last year with me on guitar, but finally dropping down to two men left us in the situation of becoming one of those bands with two blokes and a laptop, and we always said that if we were going to play live, we were going to make it something bigger and better and more than the purely-electronic studio-experience of our demos.
Adam, thankfully, and god bless him, remains as the bassist that moves mountains (and trousers), as you can hear on one of our newer tracks, Buddhabox. Only he is immune to my continued attempts at self-sabotage and creative alcoholic suicide.
We did manage a DeathBoy-All-Stars collaboration gig supporting Tricky last year at the De La War Pavillion, which was an absolute dream for me (Tricky is one of my major influences and gods), but while we borrowed Phil out of retirement and had Ben from Earth Loop Recall / This is Radio Silence and Lee Chaos of Chaos Engine to help us pull it off, it was never built to last.
In the approximate mean time (of the last few years – since EoaE), I had a kid and found someone wonderful I wanted to marry. The music continued, but we still had no ability to play live – and sometimes, real life rightfully gets in the way of dirty industrial hijinks.
On a disappointing front, despite prior arrangements, I wasn’t able to fulfil my obligations to the excellent AlterRed, so while hopefully, some of my mixes will make it to the final cut, I’m no longer slated to produce their forthcoming album. That does mean, however, that I’m freed up to complete CogRock, look to the next commercial album and look into making us a gigging band again.
We’ve just had an interview in Regen (hi, anyone who’s come across from there!) and have been assured that as soon as we’re back in giggable formation, we’ve got some tasty gigs up and down the UK available to us.
End of an Error is also being distributed by the fine people at FiXT, as well as being available via Line Out Records and on iTunes and Amazon. It’s still one of the finest pieces of work we’ve put together so far, if you like what we do, please do consider picking up a copy. Our first ever commercial release, Music To Crash Cars To should also be being distributed via FiXT in the very near future. If you don’t fancy shelling out, our music pages give you a fine and indeed fucking enormous library of freely available DeathBoy music. Take a look.
In the short term, my first goal is to complete CogRock, next we’re going to pick out the new live set and recruit some bodies to make sure we can kick arse when we take to the stage again (toward the end of 2009), around the same time, we’ll be working on a new commercial release.
We’ll also be filling this fucking gaping maw of a website with EVERYTHING WE HAVE, all the music links, all the lyrics, everything, but by fuck, there’s a lot of them, and it’s taking some time. Bear with us.
If you’re interested in any of the above, keep an eye on the website, or give us a yell – but most of all, keep the fucking faith. DeathBoy are still here, still shitfaced and still inexplicably furious about everything.
X

Welcome to the new incarnation of the DeathBoy website.
You’re probably here for the free music
For everything else, check the side bar on the right.
This new WordPress-based site gives us a lot more flexibility than the old system, but adding all the content is a labour of love, so if something’s missing, bear with us, it’ll all be back soon, as well as latest news and the obligatory drunken, abusive rantings from Scott.
Stay tuned.
